When Winter Has Worn Out Its Welcome
By the time February settles in, winter starts to feel a little heavier. The snow piles up, the cold lingers longer than we’d like, and even the most patient among us begin glancing toward the calendar, wondering when the world will warm up again. It’s the month where a lot of us — myself included — start drifting into daydreams.
Maybe it’s imagining soft sand under your feet in Hawaii, where the ocean is warm and the colors feel brighter than anything outside the window. Maybe it’s the first low rumble of racing season waking up again, a small reminder that spring isn’t as far away as it seems. Or maybe it’s the thought of summer adventures — Alaska’s glaciers, long daylight, crisp air — waiting just a few months ahead.
February is a dreaming month.
But it’s also a planning month.
This quiet stretch of winter is one of the best times to start shaping future travel. Availability is better, early‑season offers begin to appear, and cruise lines roll out strong promotions. Warm‑weather destinations open up, and those big bucket‑list trips — the ones that take a little more intention — start to take shape long before the busy season arrives.
And I’m not immune to the February itch either. I’ve tucked a little Vegas getaway into my own calendar, and I’m already hoping to stretch my Seattle time this June. Sometimes you just need something to look forward to — a spark on the horizon that makes winter feel a little less endless.
So if February has you dreaming too, you’re in good company.
